In 1999, the Bavarian State Mint of Germany introduced one of the world’s first silver coin collections to use new reverse design elements with each date mark. Then known as the Silver Zambia Elephant, as of 2004 the collection has been issued for the Somali Republic and is known as the Silver Somalia Elephant.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins ship to you inside of individual plastic flips, mint tubes of 20 coins, or Monster Boxes of 500 coins!
  • 18th release of Silver Somalia Elephants!
  • Consists of One Troy ounce of .9999 fine silver in BU condition.
  • Issued a face value of 100 Somali Shillings.
  • On the obverse of the coin is the Somali coat of arms.
  • The reverse features an adult elephant in the immediate foreground.

For the better part of its first decade in production, the Silver Elephants in the African Wildlife Series were only available with 1 oz silver coins. Over time, a 1 Kilo silver coin was introduced. However, it was the 2016-2017 releases that introduced greater change than the program had seen in any prior release year.

2016 was the first year in which the coins were introduced with .9999 fine silver content instead of .999 fine silver. In 2017, the collection gained a number of additional coin weights in both gold and silver. The Silver Elephant now offers coins such as 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, 2 oz, 5 oz, 10 oz, and 1 Kilo silver.

On the obverse side of the 2021 1 oz Silver Somalia Elephants is a depiction of the Somali coat of arms. The national seal includes a crowned shield that has a single star at its center with a background field of horizontal lines. The national flag of Somalia is similar in that it offers a field of light blue with a single white star in the center. The shield on this side includes leopards in support on either side with fern leaves and spears below.

The reverse face of the 2021 Silver Somalia Elephant includes the latest design release in the series. This year’s design features a close up on the face of an adult African bush elephant. The largest land mammal in the world, the elephant’s trunk emerges from the design field and extends into the lower rocker of the design element near the “T” in “Elephant.”

These 2021 1 oz Silver Somalia Elephants are available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are housed individually inside of plastic flips with mint tubes available for multiples of 20 coins and Monster Boxes available for multiples of 500 coins. The box has a total of 25 tubes inside.
