For the better part of two decades, Napoleon Bonaparte dominated French society through his military conquests and his leadership as Emperor of France during the First French Empire. A gifted tactician, Napoleon quickly rose to fame and power in revolutionary-era France. He would lead France through a decade of military conquests against various coalitions of other European powers. He eventually took the French Empire to the doors of Russia, before meeting a fate so many other armies have encountered during Russian winters.
The obverse of 2021 Silver St. Helena Napoleon Angel Coins comes with an image of Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. The depiction of the Queen is a right-profile portrait that includes Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Designed by Raphael Maklouf, this image was created in 1984 and used on British coins through 1997.
On the reverse side of the 2021 1 oz Silver Napoleon Angel Coin is a depiction of a single angel standing guard at a headstone with an “N” inscribed in honor of Napoleon Bonaparte. After his death in 1821, Bonaparte was originally buried on the island of St. Helena. His body was returned to Paris in the 1840s and reinterred at Les Invalides. Napoleon’s tomb is the most notable at the site and consists of a tomb made from red quartzite resting on a base of green granite. The hall is surrounded by 12 angels made from white marble. There is an “EIC” mark on this face of the coin.
