Also known as the duck-billed platypus, the platypus is part of the echidna species and represents one of the five extant species of monotremes. The platypus is endemic to the eastern coast of Australia and Tasmania where it is the only living member of its mammalian family and genus. Like the beaver in North America, the platypus was once widely hunted on the Australian continent for its fur. Today, however, it enjoys a protected status that ensures it is not targeted by hunters.

While individual coins are offered in protective flips, multiples come with Perth Mint packaging of plastic tubes for 10 coins and Monster Boxes for 100 coins. The box holds 10 separate 10-coin tubes. Next Generation Series coins have a micro-laser engraved security feature on the reverse. It is hidden within the text inscriptions and is only visible under magnification.

On the obverse side of 2021 Silver Australian Mother & Baby Platypus Coins is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The longest-reigning monarch of England, Elizabeth II holds the dual-title as Queen of Australia as well in her role as the head of the Commonwealth. The portrait of the Queen includes the George IV State Diadem on her head and represents the sixth-generation effigy of the Queen on Australian coins.

The reverse of 2021 2 oz Silver Mother & Baby Platypus Coins includes a depiction of a mother platypus as it swims in the water with its newborn baby. You’ll notice these coins are what is referred to as a piedfort blank. The coin has the diameter of a traditional 1 oz silver coin, but is twice as thick to accommodate the 2 Troy oz of silver content.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment.
