In 1986, the United States Mint introduced the Silver American Eagle with the effigy of Walking Liberty on the obverse and a modified version of the heraldic eagle of the United States on the reverse. This design from John Mercanti has featured on the reverse of BU, Proof, and Burnished versions of the coin since then. However, in 2021, the US Mint will issue it for the final time in its Type release.

All of these 2021 (P) 1 oz Silver American Eagle Type 1 Coins are available in near-perfect condition with plastic slabs from the NGC. Mint State 69 coins have full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this grade include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines and must be located outside of the primary fields of the coin.

On the obverse of 2021 (P) Silver American Eagle Type 1 Coins is a depiction of Walking Liberty. This vision of Liberty was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman for the US half dollar. It shows Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon.

The reverse of the 2021 (P) 1 oz Silver Eagle Coins features the heraldic eagle for the final time. Modified by John Mercanti in 1986, this is one of America’s oldest coin designs. Originally created in the 1790s, it shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace.
