Since the 1986 debut of the Silver American Eagles, the United States Mint has never issued a new design element on either the obverse or reverse of the coins. 2021 marks the first time a design element will change in this series. While Walking Liberty will remain on the obverse, a new American bald eagle design will debut on the reverse of the coins.

However, the 2021 Silver Eagle release is set to feature two versions of its BU release. The US Mint continued with the use of the Walking Liberty-Heraldic Eagle design combination on early 2021-dated Silver Eagles such as these coins. By midyear, the new American bald eagle design will appear on the reverse of coins issued with a 2021 date.

The obverse side of 2021 (S) 1 oz Silver American Eagles bears the design of Walking Liberty. This image was created by Adolph A. Weinman and originally featured on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947.

On the reverse field of 2021 (S) 1 oz Silver Eagles is the heraldic eagle in its final release. The heraldic eagle depicts a bald eagle with wings spread in front-facing relief as it supports the US national shield. The design includes the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in the talons of the eagle and a cluster of 13 stars in a triangle above the head of the eagle.

These 2021 (S) 1 oz Silver American Eagles are available in near-perfect condition. Mint State 69 coins showcase full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Coins in this condition have only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside the primary focal points to qualify for this grade.
