For the first time in the history of the Silver American Eagle Series, the coveted silver bullion coins get a facelift in 2021. To celebrate the 35th anniversary in the series, the US Mint is unveiling a new reverse design that captures the bald eagle in a new design. However, the US Mint is issuing the coins in two versions in 2021: one with the original designs and one with the new design. The 2021 Silver Eagle marks the last chance to own the original design combinations. Today, 2021 (S) 1 oz Silver American Eagles with the original designs in perfect condition are available to you at Silver.com.

The 2021 release of Silver American Eagles is the first in the series that will feature two versions of the coin. The first coins issued with the 2021 date mark offer the original design combinations of Walking Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle for the final time. All coins dated 2021 and issued after midyear will feature the new bald eagle design on the reverse while retaining the beautiful Walking Liberty design on the obverse.
All of the 2021 (S) 1 oz Silver American Eagles available here come with Mint State 70 grades. Considered perfect specimens, these coins have full, original mint luster and have no detracting flaws of any kind present on the designs or fields of the coin.
On the obverse side of 2021 Silver American Eagles is a depiction of Walking Liberty. Originally used on the obverse of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar in circulation from 1916 to 1947, the design was created by Adolph A. Weinman. It shows Liberty walking from right to left across the design element draped in the American flag.
The reverse face of 2021 (S) Silver American Eagles comes with the heraldic eagle design. In this image from John Mercanti, the bald eagle supports the national shield with the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in its talons. A triangular cluster of 13 stars over its head represents the original American colonies.
These coins were produced as part of supplemental coining at the San Francisco Mint. There are no “S” mint marks on the coin, but the specimens are known to have been produced at San Francisco based on the serial number and straps on the Monster Boxes the US Mint shipped the coins in.
