The Proof Gold Eagle and its Brilliant Uncirculated and Burnished counterparts enter new territory in 2021. As the US Mint celebrates the 35th anniversary of the beloved gold coin series, it will introduce the first design change in the three-plus decade history of the collection. In 2021, the reverse design elements on the Gold Eagles and Silver Eagles will be revamped, each one having its own distinctive new design. Right now, 2021-W 1/4 oz Proof Gold American Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

2021 is poised to be a unique release year for the Gold Eagle Series for two reasons. The new design coming to the reverse is the most obvious of those reasons, but another unique aspect is the release of two separate batches of the 2021 Proof Gold Eagle. The US Mint plans to start the release of the coins with the original design elements and later change over to the new reverse design when the dies are ready for coining. That is expected to come after July 2021.

The obverse field of 2021-W 1/4 oz Proof Gold American Eagles includes a depiction of Lady Liberty. This historic design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the behest of President Theodore Roosevelt. Designed to help revitalize and modernize American coin design, this groundbreaking Liberty design shows her powerful, confident figure walking forward with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.

On the reverse side of 2021-W Proof Gold Eagles is an image of a family of bald eagles. The original design in the series created in 1986 by Miley Busiek, the visual field showcases a family nest with a female eagle and hatchling as a male eagle is depicted flying overhead.
