For the 35th anniversary of the Silver Eagle, the US Mint introduced a new design for the reverse of the coins that will be struck each year going forward. Before doing so, the mint issued BU and Proof Silver Eagles in 2021 with the original reverse from John Mercanti. The Burnished Silver Eagle was, however, not included in that release. The only 2021-dated Burnished Silver Eagles are these coins with the new reverse design from Emily Damstra.
All of the 2021-W 1 oz Burnished Silver American Eagle Type 2 Coins available here come with near-perfect certifications. The NGC assigns a Mint State 69 certification to coins that have full, original mint luster and come with no more than two minor detractions. Those detractions are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines only and must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin to qualify for the grade. As Early Release specimens, these coins were received by the NGC within 30 days of the US Mint’s release.
On the obverse of 2021-W Burnished Silver Eagle Type 2 Coins is a depiction of Walking Liberty. This iconic design was created by Adolph A. Weinman for the US Mint in 1916 and featured first on the US Half Dollar. It has been the face of the Silver Eagle since 1986. The new Type 2 release of the coins includes the AW signature mark of Weinman within the obverse field.
The reverse side of 2021-W 1 oz Burnished Silver Eagle Type 2 Coins comes with a new bald eagle design from Emily Damstra. This image features the bald eagle in flight as it swoops downward, wings flexed as it clutches an oak branch in its talons.
