Each of the silver blanks used in the production of Burnished Silver Eagles comes from the same batch as those used for the Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof coins. However, the blanks used for the Burnished Series are treated in a polishing drum before coining. The blanks are rolled in a drum with a burnishing medium to create a clean, matte visual. Each one is removed by hand, struck once in the press with the design die, and removed for immediate packaging.
All of these 2021-W 1 oz Burnished Silver American Eagles are in perfect condition according to the PCGS. Coins with a Mint State 70 certification have full, original mint luster and bear no detracting flaws on the design elements or surface areas. The included First Strike label indicates these specimens were received for grading within the original 30-day window following release from the mint.
On the obverse of 2021 Burnished Silver American Eagles is the image of Walking Liberty. This depiction was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman during a period of major overhaul for American coin designs. It first featured on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947 and was revived for the Silver Eagle in 1986. It shows Liberty in left-profile relief with her right hand reaching out toward the sun and her left carrying branches of oak and laurel.
The reverse side of the 2021-W 1 oz Burnished Silver Eagle features the heraldic eagle of the United States in its final appearance in the series. The soon-to-be-replaced design shows the bald eagle with the US national shield as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.
