In 2021, the US Mint made an important change to its Silver Eagles. In a first for the program, a design element was overhauled with the John Mercanti depiction of the heraldic eagle replaced midway through the year with a new image of the bald eagle created in 2020 by Emily Damstra. This resulted in split issues throughout the year, with Type 1 coins bearing the original Mercanti design and Type 2 coins featuring the new Damstra design element. Now, 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles in perfect condition are available to you for purchase online Silver.com.

When the United States Mint introduced the Silver Eagle bullion coins in 1986, it reached back into the archives for design inspiration. Adolph A. Weinman’s 1916 depiction of Walking Liberty from the US half dollar was revived and refined for use on the obverse side of the Silver American Eagles.
That same year, John Mercanti modernized the historic heraldic eagle of the United States of America, a design that dates all the way back to the founding of the United States Mint in 1792 and which debuted in 1794 on American coins. Mercanti’s design has graced the reverse of the coins all the way from 1986 to the 35th-anniversary release in early 2021. By July 2021, Mercanti’s design was retired in favor of a new bald eagle depiction meant to celebrate the 35th anniversary and refresh the coin’s appearance for the decades to come.
The obverse side of 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles comes with Weinman’s depiction of Liberty in left-profile relief. Known as Walking Liberty, this design is widely believed to be inspired by the French gold coin design from the 1890s known as The Sower. Liberty walks in left-profile relief toward a sun on the horizon with the American flag draped around her figure.
On the reverse face of 2021 Proof Silver American Eagles is the new bald eagle image from Emily Damstra. Designed in 2020, it shows a bald eagle descending into the design field with a large oak branch in its talons.
These 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles are perfect specimens. PF70 coins showcase full, original mint luster with no flaws. UCAM stands for ultra-cameo and refers to the presence of strong, frosted designs overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear fields. First Release indicates the coins were received for grading within 30 days of release from the mint.
