To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the very first American Eagle bullion coins, the United States Mint has refreshed the bald eagle imagery present on the reverse of its gold and silver coins. The new bald eagle on the reverse of the Silver Eagle Series comes from Emily Damstra, a contributing artist in the US Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program. Each 2021 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagle offered in this listing comes with a near-perfect grade from the PCGS. Coins with a PR69 grade exhibit full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this grade include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines. These flaws must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin.
The additional designations of Deep-Cameo and First Strike found within the slab provide added value to each specimen. A DCAM coin is a proof specimen with strong, frosted design elements and deeply-mirrored, clear fields. First Strike coins are those that the PCGS receives within 30 days of the US Mint’s initial release of the coins.
Two new elements are present on the 2021 Silver Eagle Type 2 coins. On the obverse field, the US Mint now includes Weinman’s original “AW” signature mark beneath the inscription of “In God We Trust.” The reeded edge of the coins now has a variation element for anti-counterfeiting.
The obverse of 2021 1 oz Proof Silver Eagle Type 2 Coins includes the Walking Liberty design. Created by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, it was first used on the half dollar from 1916 to 1947. It depicts Liberty in left-profile relief with her right hand outstretched toward the sun and her left carrying the branches of oak and laurel.
On the reverse of 2021 Proof Silver American Eagle Type 2 Coins is a new bald eagle design from Emily Damstra. This design features the bald eagle in flight with its wings flexed up behind its figure and its talons holding a large oak branch.
