The Proof Silver Eagles represent a collectible option in the American Eagle Series. Demand for the Proof Silver American Eagle often increases around commemorative date marks in the collection, such as the 10th anniversary in 1995, the 20th anniversary in 2006, and the 30th anniversary in 2016. The 35th-anniversary release in 2021 is set to be the most unique in the collection’s history. Right now, 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

The 2021 Proof Silver Eagle marks the 35th anniversary of the series and will be the first coin released in the collection to feature two separate designs in one year. These early 2021 releases continue with the heraldic eagle of the United States on the reverse, while the US Mint will debut a new reverse design by mid-2021 on both the Silver Eagles and Gold Eagles.

The obverse field of 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles includes the iconic depiction of Walking Liberty. Adolph A. Weinman created this image in 1916 for the United States Mint and it was used on the US half dollar from 1916 to 1947. The image features Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon. This design has been on the obverse of these coins since 1986 and will not change in 2021.

On the reverse side of the 2021-W Proof Silver Eagles is the heraldic eagle of the United States. The heraldic eagle is featured in front-facing relief with the US national shield on its chest, arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other talon. This design was modernized in 1986 by John Mercanti and 2021 marks the last time this design will appear on the Silver American Eagles.
