Gold American Eagles from the United States Mint debuted in 1986. The coins are 22-karat gold specimens, making them the purest gold coins, at the time, that the mint had issued since 1834. A modern 22-karat gold coin at the United States Mint includes 91.67% gold content with a balance of 5.33% copper and 3% silver.

In 1986, the US Mint offered the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins in a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen and a 1 oz gold coin in the Proof Series. The Proof Series expanded in 1987 with a 1/2 oz gold coin and again in 1988 with the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins. In 2006, the mint introduced the Burnished Series with a 1 oz gold coin.

The obverse of 2022 Gold American Eagles features the iconic depiction of Lady Liberty. Designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the field includes Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. As she walks forward, the U.S. Capitol Building is at her feet, sun rays are behind her figure, and there is a ring of 50 stars around the design element.

On the reverse side of the 2022 1/10 oz Gold Eagle is the image of an American bald eagle in left-profile relief. This new design from Jennie Norris shows the head of the eagle in incredible detail that includes its powerful, hooked beak with its steely gaze fixed on an object in the distance. The layered plumage of the bird is also shown in incredible detail.

These 2022 1/10 oz Gold American Eagles are available in Mint State 70 condition. These perfect specimens are housed in plastic slabs to protect the full, original mint luster of the specimen and ensure it continues to be free of detracting flaws. Early Release designations are for coins received for grading inside 30 days of release from the US Mint.
