Kookaburras are members of the kingfisher species and are, in fact, the largest members of that species. The kookaburra was one of the first two native animals to feature on Perth Mint bullion coinage. In 1990, Perth Mint introduced two of its longest-lasting and most-coveted coin programs.

The Australian Kookaburra started in 1990, the same year that the Australian Nugget gold bullion series transitioned to the Australian Kangaroo design instead. The Kookaburras debuted as a silver bullion series and the series has since grown to feature these 1/10 oz gold coins and a 1/10 oz platinum coin.

On the obverse of 2022 Gold Australian Kookaburras is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. England’s longest-reigning monarch, Elizabeth II has been on the throne since 1952 and her likeness has appeared on British and Commonwealth currency since that time. This design is the sixth-generation portrait of the Queen to grace Australian coins and was originally designed for the Royal Mint of England in 2015 by Jody Clark.

The reverse side of the 2022 1/10 oz Gold Kookaburra features a new design from Natasha Muhl. This year’s image of the kookaburra shows one of the birds perched on an ornamental birdbath. In the background field, you will notice Agapanthus, flowering plants that are commonly planted in gardens in Australia.

These 2022 1/10 oz Gold Australian Kookaburras are packaged individually for delivery with protective acrylic capsules. Each coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Coins in BU condition showcase full, original mint luster, but may occasionally show minor minting flaws as part of the typical coining process.
