The United States Mint introduced a new design for its coveted Gold Eagles in 2021. The mint debuted a new reverse image of the bald eagle from Jennie Norris at the midway point of 2021 during the 35th anniversary of the series. The coins started 2021 with the original design before switching to the new image. In 2022, the new design takes over as the official reverse image for the future. Today, 2022 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles are available to you online at Silver.com in perfect condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you in NGC plastic slabs!
  • 37th year of issue for the Gold American Eagle!
  • Availability of certified perfect coins is limited!
  • Consists of One-Half Troy ounce of actual gold content.
  • The face value of $25 (USD) is fully backed by the US government.
  • Graded Mint State 70 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Early Release label.
  • On the obverse is Lady Liberty.
  • The reverse features an American bald eagle.

From 1986 to June 2021, the US Mint featured Miley Busiek’s depiction of the family of American bald eagles on the reverse of the coins. After a brief pause in production, the mint changed the design on the reverse to debut the new bald eagle as created by Jennie Norris. This dual release allowed the 35th-anniversary date mark to celebrate both the original design and the new design.

All of these 2022 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles are Mint State 70 specimens with plastic slabs. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster and have no detracting flaws of any kind. Early Release coins are those received by the NGC for certification within 30 days of issue by the mint.

On the obverse of 2022 Gold American Eagles is a depiction of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and captures her full-length figures. The design shows Liberty walking with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Her figure is framed by sun rays in the background and there is a ring of 50 stars around the design element.

The reverse field of the 2022 1/2 oz Gold Eagles features a new image of the bald eagle. Designed by Jennie Norris, it shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief with great detail in its sharp gaze, hooked beak, and thick plumage.
