The gold coins in the American Eagle Series enter 2022 fresh off the debut of a new reverse design in 2021. As part of the 35th anniversary of the series, the US Mint had a split release in 2021 that saw the original reverse design struck from January to June and the new design from July to the end of the year. That makes 2022 the first full year for the new reverse design. Today, 2022 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles are available to you online at Silver.com in perfect condition.

Miley Busiek’s design for the reverse of the Gold Eagles was used from 1986 when the series launched until June 2021. This design was created in 1986 exclusively for this series and never featured on other US Mint products. The new design on the reverse comes from Jennie Norris, a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program.
All of these 2022 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles come to you with Mint State 70 certifications inside a protective slab. Considered perfect coins, these specimens have full, original mint luster and lack detracting flaws of any kind. The First Day of Issue designation means the NGC received the coins for grading within 24 hours of release from the mint.
On the obverse of 2022 Gold American Eagles is the image of Liberty from Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Created in 1907 for the Gold $20 Double Eagle, this image was used on that series from 1907 to 1933 and revived in 1986 for the debut of the Gold Eagles. Little has changed about the design over the last century. The original design had a ring of 46 stars around Liberty, with two stars added in 1912. For the 1986 revival of the design, two more stars were added to bring the total to 50, one for each state in the Union.
The reverse of 2022 1/2 oz Gold Eagles comes with the new design from Jennie Norris. This image shows the head of an American bald eagle in left-profile relief with incredible attention to detail in the design element.
