From 1986 to June 2021, the United States Mint issued the Gold American Eagles with the image of a family of bald eagles on the reverse. This design was created in 1986 exclusively for this series by Miley Busiek. The design was issued one final time between January and June 2021 as part of the 35th anniversary of the series.

In July, the mint paused production of the coins to retire the Miley Busiek design and introduce a new reverse design. This new artistic creation from Jennie Norris was released throughout the second half of 2021 as part of a celebratory release for the 35th anniversary. In 2022, it is now the only design you will find on the reverse of the coins.

The obverse of 2022 1/2 oz Gold Eagles features a front-facing effigy of Lady Liberty. This image of Liberty dates to 1907 and shows her full-length figure as she walks away from the sun with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left as the sun frames her body with warm rays of light.

On the reverse side of the 2022 Gold American Eagle is a depiction of an American bald eagle. This new design shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief with impressive levels of detail for its physical features and other characteristics.

These 2022 1/2 oz Gold American Eagles come with plastic slabs and a Mint State 70 certification. Considered perfect specimens, the coins showcase full, original mint luster and have no flaws. The First Strike label for the coins means each one was received for grading within 30 days of release from the mint.
