The Gold Libertad coin series from the Mexican Mint debuted in 1981. Though it now features a total of five weights between a 1 oz gold coin and four fractional-ounce coins, the first year of availability featured just three weights, each of which has been available since then. Among those first three coins was the 1/2 oz Gold Libertad. Right now, 2022 1/2 oz Gold Mexican Libertads are available to purchase online from Silver.com.

The 1/2 oz gold coin has, in most years, been one of the lower-minted coins in the series. In 2021, for example, it had the joint lowest mintage with the 1/4 oz coin with just 500 units produced.
In 1981 when the Mexican Mint introduced the Gold Libertad Series, it offered the coins in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz weights. These three coins were available just this one time in the 1980s before returning in 1991, accompanied this time by 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz gold coins. Since then, the 1/2 oz Gold Libertad has missed the 1995-1999, 2001, and 2012 date marks in the series.
In the obverse design of 2022 Gold Libertads, the Mexican Mint offers a vision of the national coat of arms. Unlike larger coins in the series, only the modern coat of arms features on this side of the Gold Libertad. This seal features a powerful Mexican golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus. Within the design, the eagle is shown using its beak and talons to subdue a serpent. This imagery is surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel, as well as the nation of issue.
For the reverse field of 2022 1/2 oz Gold Mexican Libertads, you will find the statue of Winged Victory. Based on the statue that tops the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City, this design shows Victory with a laurel wreath crown in her right hand and broken chains in her left.
