The gold coins of the American Eagle Series debuted in 1986. At the midpoint of the year, the US Mint released the new design of the American bald eagle from Jennie Norris. Right now, 2022 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com in perfect condition.

Gold American Eagles debuted at the United States Mint in 1986. The series originally featured four weights in BU and one weight in proof. The fractional-ounce coins were introduced in the proof range in 1987 and 1988, with a burnished coin introduced in 2006.

The obverse of the 2022 Gold American Eagle features a depiction of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief was designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It features the front-facing effigy of Liberty set against sun rays in the background with the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet. She walks holding aloft a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left hand. A ring of 50 stars is featured around the design field.

On the reverse side of the 2022 1/4 oz Gold Eagle is an image of the American bald eagle. The new design from Jennie Norris shows the bald eagle in left-profile relief with intricate detail in its plumage, as well as the hooked beak and piercing gaze of the bird.
