The Gold American Eagles from the United States Mint charted a new course forward in 2021. After issuing the original design from Miley Busiek on the reverse of 2021-dated coins through the first half of the year, the US Mint paused production and resumed a short while later with a new reverse image on the coins for the first time in the program’s history. In 2022, it’s all about the new design from Jennie Norris. Right now, certified-perfect 2022 1/4 oz Gold American Eagles are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Each 2022 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle available here is a Mint State 70 specimen in a protective plastic slab. Coins in perfect condition, such as these, exhibit full, original mint luster and have no detractions present. The First Day of Issue designation is for coins received for grading within 24 hours of release from the US Mint.

The new reverse design in the Gold Eagle Series was designed in 2020 by Jennie Norris. It was chosen from a collection of more than 30 possible designs as the replacement for the Miley Busiek design that had been created exclusively for this series back in 1986.

The obverse of 2022 Gold American Eagles features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ classic take on Liberty. This front-facing relief shows the full-length figure of Liberty as she strides forward with sun rays at her back and the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet in the background. As she strides forward, she carries a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.

On the reverse side of the 2022 1/4 oz Gold Eagle is a depiction of the American bald eagle. This all-new design shows off the power of the bald eagle in its keen gaze and its hooked beak, while also capturing the natural splendor of the bird in its detailed plumage.
