Once the world’s most popular gold bullion coin, the South African Krugerrand remains a force within the precious metals industry. The gold coins in this series were once the only gold bullion options available. From 1967 to 1979, no other major gold bullion coin existed. Today, the four coins in this series are popular with investors. Right now, 2022 1/4 oz Gold South African Krugerrands are available to purchase online from Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you in individual flips or plastic tubes of 50 coins!
  • 56th available date in the South African Krugerrand Series and the 43rd date for 1/4 oz gold coins!
  • Consists of One-Quarter Troy ounce of actual gold content.
  • The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Paul Kruger.
  • On the reverse side is the Springbok antelope.

Each 2022 1/4 oz Gold South African Krugerrand available in this listing at Silver.com comes packaged in individual flips or by multiples of 50 gold coins in plastic tubes. The coins in this release are Brilliant Uncirculated specimens.

Gold Krugerrands are available from the Rand Refinery and South African Mint with 22-karat gold content. The 22-karat content of Krugerrands is different compared to other gold bullion coins. While the gold content is the same at 91.67% of the metallic alloy, it is the remainder of the alloy that is different. For the Gold Krugerrand, the remainder of the metallic alloy is 8.33% copper. Some other collections mix silver and copper in the metallic alloy of 22-karat gold coins.

The obverse side of 2022 Gold South African Krugerrands features a left-profile portrait of Paul Kruger. A four-term president for the former South African Republic, Kruger was a military and political leader who came from Boer lineage. The Boers of South Africa were descended from Dutch-speaking colonists in the region. Otto Schultz created this portrait of Kruger during the former’s lifetime, with the image featuring on South African Pound gold coins starting in 1892.

On the reverse field of 2022 1/4 oz Gold Krugerrands is a depiction of the Springbok antelope. The Springbok is a species of antelope that lives in southern Africa across various nations, but is the symbol of the modern Republic of South Africa. The Springbok moves with a unique gait known as pronking, a movement that allows them to eventually leap as high as 4 feet off the ground.
