The Animal Portrait Series from the Royal Canadian Mint started in 2017 and has offered a new reverse design for each release since then. There is one design available for each date mark, with the coins released in both silver and gold. The weights available include 3/4 oz silver and 1/4 oz gold.

Within the series, so far the coin designs issued have featured both birds of prey and powerful predators. The designs offered so far include the Big Horn Sheep, a master of slippery heights, the Wolverine, a vicious predator, the Wild Horse, the Woodland Caribou, and the Great Horned Owl, the so-called tiger of the air.

Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse side of 2022 1/4 oz Gold Moose Reverse Proof Coins. This depiction of the Queen is set in right-profile relief and lacks a crown on the Queen’s head. Designed in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this design is the first Canadian portrait to lack a crown, the second from a Canadian artist, and the second exclusive design for Canadian coinage.

A large moose is featured in the reverse design of the 2022 Gold Canadian Moose Reverse Proof Coin. This design is the sixth to feature in the series and captures the image of the largest and heaviest living member of the deer family.

These 2022 1/4 oz Gold Canadian Moose Reverse Proofs are available individually in flips. Multiples come with sheets of 20 coins or boxes of 800 coins for multiples. All of the coins are reverse-proof specimens that have mirrored design elements overlaying frosted design fields.
