The Chinese dragon is one of the most important creatures in Chinese mythology. For centuries, Emperors embraced the image of a dragon as a symbol of the power of their rule and the strength of their empire, but also as a symbol of their divine right to rule. Additionally, the origin story of China’s four major rivers is rooted in a mythical tale involving four dragons.

The obverse of the 2022 Gold Australian Rectangular Dragon features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. In this right-profile relief, Her Majesty is shown at the age of 89 in a design from Jody Clark that was created in 2015. In this design, the Queen is shown wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown.

On the reverse side of 2022 1 oz Gold Rectangular Dragons is an image of the Chinese dragon. Very different in appearance when compared to dragons from European folklore, the Chinese dragon takes on more of a serpent-like appearance and often has four legs, with no wings, and is not said to breathe fire.

These 2022 1 oz Gold Australian Rectangular Dragons are available to purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins in the gold bullion series come with protective plastic capsules for individual specimens and boast a distinctive mintage of 8,888 coins only. This mintage is symbolic as it replicates the luckiest number in Chinese culture, eight.
