The Royal Canadian Mint introduced the Gold Canadian Maple Leaf in 1979. The coins were originally available only in 1 oz gold with .999 fine gold content. It wasn’t until 1982 that the mint enhanced the fineness of the gold in the coins and began to introduced fractional-ounce coins. Today, the Gold Maple Leaf is a leading .9999 fine gold coin.

All of these 2022 1 oz Gold Canadian Maple Leafs are available sealed in MintID CertiCards. Each CertiCard has one coin sealed inside and has a blue front with a white back. The back, white side of the CertiCard has an NFC Scan symbol letting you know where to tap your smartphone when using the MintID app to authenticate your coin.

The MintID app is free to use and does not require any personal, sensitive information being shared in the app. With the NFC enabled on your smartphone and the MintID app open, follow the prompts to tap the chip on the back of the card. You’ll be connected to the profile for each coin that verifies its authenticity and shows the details of the release.

On the obverse side of 2022 Gold Canadian Maple Leafs is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief without a crown on her head, a first for Canadian portraits during her reign.

The reverse field of the 2022 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf features the image of the sugar maple leaf. The national emblem of Canada, the sugar maple leaf featured here was created by Walter Ott. Gold Maple Leafs have radial lines in the background on both fields, with a micro-laser engraved maple leaf privy on the reverse.
