Any modern bullion coin with the Una and the Lion design concept can thank the 1839 release of a Gold 5 Pound British coin. This specimen was issued to celebrate the first anniversary of Queen Victoria’s time on the throne of England. Today, the East India Company and the Issuing Authority of St. Helena offer a new interpretation of the Una-and-the-Lion design. Today, 2022 1 oz Proof Gold St. Helena Una and the Lion Coins are available to you online at Silver.com.

The story of Una and the Lion comes from the epic 16th-century poem, The Faerie Queene. This poem was written by English author Edmund Spenser and set a number of records in the literary world. It remains one of the longest poems ever written in the English language. It consists of more than 36,000 lines and 4,000 stanzas.

On the obverse of 2022 Proof Gold St. Helena Una and the Lion Coins is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is captured here at the age of 89 in right-profile relief as she wears the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. This design was created in 2015 by Jody Clark for the Royal Mint and has made its way to the coinage of various territories of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth Nations.

The reverse side of 2022 1 oz Proof Gold Una and the Lion Coins comes with a new design from Glyn Davies. Just for 2022, this design shows the figure of Una in right-profile relief seated on a rock with a staff resting against her left shoulder. The noble lion is seated on the right and looks at Una in left-profile relief. There is a stylized sun in the background field with roses framing the top of the design element.
