The Lunar Series III program was introduced at Perth Mint in 1996. The first series was much smaller than the collection as it stands in 2022. The Lunar Series I program ran from 1996 to 2007. In 2008, the new Lunar Series II program debuted and began to expand the variety of coins available to investors and collectors.

In 2020, the Lunar Series III program launched with gold, silver, and platinum bullion coins, the latter making its debut in the series. The coins available in the silver range offer the greatest variety, with everything from traditional BU and proof specimens to colorized proofs, high-relief strikes, gilded coins, and even a beautiful opal release.

The obverse side of 2022 Proof Silver Lunar Tiger Opal Coins comes with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in a right-profile relief from Jody Clark. Designed in 2015 for the Royal Mint, it debuted in 2018 on Australian coins as the sixth-generation portrait in the series. It shows the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown.

On the reverse face of the 2022 1 oz Proof Silver Lunar Tiger Opal Coin is an image of the opal tiger. The image of this tiger is designed with an opal and creates stunning visual contrast between the coin and the design.

These 2022 1 oz Proof Silver Australian Lunar Tiger Opal Coins are available to purchase with individual packaging. Each coin is housed in a Perth Mint case with a clear lid. The coins arrive in a themed shipper that is unique to this release and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
