Silver American Eagles have been available from the United States Mint since 1986. The very first coins offered in the series were the 1 oz silver BU and 1 oz silver Proof coins. In 2006, the US Mint introduced a 1 oz silver Burnished coin. To this day, the BU Silver Eagle remains the best-selling individual version of the coin.

The obverse side of 2022 Silver American Eagles comes with a left-profile depiction of Liberty. Known as Walking Liberty, this design element was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and features Liberty walking toward the sun as it rises over a mountain on the horizon. With her right hand outstretched, she walks toward the sun with the American flag draped around her figure and the branches of oak and laurel in her left hand.

On the reverse field of 2022 1 oz Silver Eagle Coins is a new depiction of the American bald eagle. Here, the bald eagle is shown in left-profile relief as it swoops down into view with its wings flexed and its talons clutching a large oak branch.
