In the United States, Mother’s Day is rooted in a movement started by Anna Jarvis in the early 20th century. The holiday actually started as a religious holiday and day of observance at Andrews Baptist Episcopal Church in West Virginia. Anna Jarvis was behind the push for Mother’s Day and was inspired by her own mom, Ann Reese Jarvis. Mrs. Reese Jarvis had been a nurse who cared for wounded soldiers during the American Civil War, but was also a peace activist and a promoter of Mother’s Day Work Clubs in the late 19th century. Today, Mother’s Day is more of a commercial holiday than a day of service or religious observance.

All 2022 1 oz Silver American Eagles in this listing come sealed in individual clamshell cards. Each card holds one Silver Eagle sealed at the center and boasts Mother’s Day design themes on both sides. Both fields of the card have a pink hue, with the front of the card bearing a Happy Mother’s Day greeting, as well as a ring of roses around the coin design. The reverse of the card has the details of the coin and some roses in the lower left.

On the obverse of 2022 Silver American Eagles is the 1916 depiction of Walking Liberty. This design shows the full-length figure of Liberty in left-profile relief. As she walks toward the sun draped in the American flag, Liberty extends her right hand while carrying the branches of oak and laurel in her left.

The reverse side of the 2022 1 oz Silver Eagle comes with the new depiction of the American bald eagle created by Emily Damstra. This impressive new visual features the eagle in left-profile relief as it swoops into view with an oak branch in its talons.
