To mark the 35th anniversary of the Silver Eagles in 2021, the US Mint issued two versions of the BU Silver Eagle. In honor of the conclusion of the heraldic eagle reverse design, 2021 coin issued from January to June 2021 had the original design from John Mercanti. From July 2021 to the end of the year, Emily Damstra’s new design was struck on the coins to mark a changing of the guard after 35 years. This makes 2022 the first release to feature the new reverse design from start to finish.
All of these 2022 1 oz Silver American Eagles are available in perfect condition. The PCGS issues a Mint State 70 certification to coins that have full, original mint luster and bear no detractions of any kind on the design strikes or background fields. The First Day of Issue label means the coins were received within 24 hours of release to be graded by the PCGS.
On the obverse of 2022 Silver American Eagles is Walking Liberty. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, it shows Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag draped around her figure.
The reverse side of the 2022 1 oz Silver Eagle shows the new bald eagle design. Created by Emily Damstra, it shows the bald eagle dropping down into view with its wings stretched behind its frame as it clutches an oak branch in its talon.
