In 1996, the Lunar Series I program started at Perth Mint with gold coins available. In 1999, that series got its first silver coins and the two versions ran through the end of the Chinese Lunar Calendar’s 12-year cycle in 2007. When the cycle restarted in 2008, Perth Mint released a new set of silver and gold designs that were available through 2019. In 2020, Perth Mint started the Lunar Series II collection with yet more new designs for each animal.

Over the course of time, countless additions have been made to Lunar Series collections at Perth Mint. From added fractional-ounce silver coins to a platinum bullion option, the series gained collectible and investment-grade options. Among the options added to the series were colorized and gilded coins.

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse of 2022 Silver Australian Lunar Tiger Gilded Coins. This effigy of Her Majesty was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and depicts the Queen in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head.

A tiger family is depicted in the reverse design of 2022 1 oz Silver Australian Lunar Tiger Gilded Coins. This design shows an adult tiger guiding its young cub through the jungle. While the cub is aloof and playful, the adult is cautious and alert. Both tigers have been enhanced with the application of a thin layer of 24-karat gold to create visual contrast within the design.
