The Silver Rwandan Lunar Ounce Series launched in 2017 with the Year of the Rooster. The collection is one of several that is now available. The same year saw the introduction of the Rwandan Nautical Ounce Series, a collection celebrating the sailing vessels that have left a mark on the history of human seafaring navigation. Both of these collections were built on the success of the Rwandan Wildlife Series that launched in 2009.

The obverse of 2022 Silver Rwandan Lunar Tiger Coins features a depiction of the tiger. The Year of the Tiger is the third in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese lunar calendar. All of the coins in this series have a shattered-glass effect on the obverse field with a different depiction of each animal to match the date mark. Tigers are considered guardians of children in Chinese culture and are associated with symbols of power.

On the reverse side of 2022 1 oz Silver Rwandan Lunar Tigers is the national coat of arms for Rwanda. The seal includes a number of different elements from tribal history in the region. The central element is flanked by traditional warrior shields with a traditional basket at the center above a cog wheel. On either side of the basket are a coffee tree branch and a stem of sorghum.
