The Silver Somalia Elephants took a major step forward starting in 2016. This year saw the Bavarian State Mint increase the silver content of the coins from .999 to .9999 fineness. In the years that followed, fractional-ounce silver coins and weights above 1 oz silver were added to the series to make it one of the most diverse silver collections in the market.
The obverse of 2022 Silver Somalia Elephant Coins features a depiction of the national coat of arms for the Somali Republic. In this design, the coat of arms focuses on a crowned shield that has a background field of horizontal lines with a single star at the center. The shield is supported by leopards on either side, with fern leaves and spears crossing beneath the figures.
On the reverse of 2022 1 oz Silver Elephant coins is a new depiction of the African bush elephant. This year’s exclusive design shows a mother elephant leading its young calf along the savanna. The two are featured alone on the savanna, with the only exceptions being the small flock of birds overhead and the trees on the horizon in the distant background.
