Dingoes have lived on the Australian continent for more than 8,300 years now. Though little to nothing is known about the human population that brought the now-wild dogs with them to the region, the first Europeans to arrive in Australia found the dogs living amongst some Aboriginal tribes.
On the obverse of 2022 Silver Australian Mother & Baby Dingo Coins, you will find the sixth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to grace Australian coins. Designed for the Royal Mint in 2015 by Jody Clark, this effigy was first adopted by the Perth Mint in 2018 and is now prominent across all Australian collections. In this design, the Queen is shown at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem.
The reverse side of the 2022 10 oz Silver Mother & Baby Dingo Coin features a depiction of two dingoes. In this design, a mother and young pup sit facing inward toward one another. Dingoes have long featured in the Dreamtime, or The Dreaming, stories of Australian Aboriginals. In an odd twist, though the dog is prominent in these oral traditions, it is generally lacking in cave paintings created by ancient Aboriginals. In fact, the extinct thylacine, or Tasmanian tiger, is far more prominent in cave paintings.
