Born in 1832 in Strasbourg, the French artist Paul Gustave Louis Christophe Doré was a recognized artistic talent from a young age. The creator of several acclaimed paintings, he was also a major talent in the medium of wood engravings, and completed a series more than two hundred and forty engraved scenes from the Bible in 1866. These incredible engravings formed the inspiration for the Scottsdale Mint’s Biblical series of silver collectibles, first issued in 2015 and growing in popularity with each issue. The latest is the 2022 2 oz Silver The Dead Christ Biblical Coin, currently offered by Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Comes individually housed in a card and packaged in a Biblically-patterned gift box!
  • Issued in 2022 as the latest in the Scottsdale Mint Biblical series!
  • Limited mintage of just 1,499 pieces!
  • Consists of Two Troy ounces of .999 fine silver.
  • Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity with an accompanying Biblical passage.
  • Face value of $2 (NZD) as legal tender of Niue.
  • Obverse side features Raphael Maklouf’s likeness of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Reverse side features a reproduction of one of Gustave Doré’s famous Bible engravings.

The 2022 The Dead Christ Biblical Silver Coin is a gorgeous collectible featuring a high-relief, antiqued rimless design showcasing one of Doré’s famous Biblical scenes. These coins ship individually housed in a card with an assay certificate, packaged in turn inside a gift box designed to resemble a Bible, and Silver.com fully insures each shipment. A Certificate of Authenticity comes with each coin, printed on antique-styled paper along with a passage from the Gospel of John; the Certificate’s serial number is matched by a laser-etched number on the coin’s edge.

The creative team at the Scottsdale Mint draws on Gustave Doré’s engravings, but goes beyond simply reproducing them. Each coin is an exercise in capturing the spirit of the original artworks while adapting them to the context of high-relief medallic artwork on a silver coin.

The spectacular results of this process are featured on the coin’s reverse side, where an image based on a Doré engraving shows a small group of Jesus Christ’s followers mourning his death on the cross. It is accompanied by the inscription “THE DEAD CHRIST.”

The coin’s obverse side features Raphael Maklouf’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II to confirm it as legal tender of Niue. This is accompanied by the inscriptions “QUEEN ELIZABETH II,” “NIUE,” “TWO DOLLARS,” “2022,” and verification of its weight and silver contents.

Where does your spot price come from?

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
