The modern Gold Sovereign series from Britain was introduced in 1817 and has been available as a bullion series since the mid-20th century. Once available as circulation coins in the 19th and early-20th centuries, the coins of the Gold Great Britain Sovereign are now available to investors with 22-karat Crown gold alloys. For 2022, the Royal Mint offers a depiction of the Royal Arms of England to honor the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Right now, 2022 Gold Great Britain 1/2 Sovereigns are available to purchase online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you inside individual plastic flips!
  • Bullion 1/2 Sovereigns offered as of 1980!
  • Consists of .1176 Troy ounces of actual gold content in BU condition.
  • Bears legal tender status in Britain.
  • The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • On the reverse is the Royal Arms of England.

Each 2022 Gold Great Britain 1/2 Sovereign is available to you in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with an individual plastic flip for delivery. The 1/2 Sovereign has been available in the bullion series since 1980 and features 22-karat gold content. Known as Crown gold in Great Britain, this indicates the presence of 91.67% gold in the coin’s metallic alloy, with most coins featuring copper as the remaining balance.

Although the Sovereign, Double Sovereign, and Half Sovereign are no longer used for circulation purposes in Britain, all three coins retain legal tender status. The coins, like the Gold Krugerrands of South Africa, have legal tender status with no face value noted on the coins. The face value of each of the coins is 1 Pound sterling, 2 Pound sterling, and 1/2 Pound sterling, respectively.

The obverse of 2022 Gold 1/2 Sovereigns comes with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty features here in the fifth-generation portrait that was created for the Royal Mint by Jody Clark. The design shows the Queen in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. In this portrait, the Queen is shown at the age of 89.

On the reverse side of 2022 Gold Great Britain 1/2 Sovereigns is the Royal Arms of England. Issued on the coins in 2022, the Royal Arms celebrates Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. Already a record-breaking monarch, Elizabeth II has now become the first monarch to ever celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, honoring her 70 years on the throne.

The 1/2 Sovereign was issued from 1817 to 1926 for circulation use in Britain. The coins continued to see extensive use in Australia through 1933. Between 1926 and 1979, the 1/2 Sovereign was largely issued only for special occasions during coronation or Jubilee years.

We use a live, up-to-the-second spot price feed supplied by Xignite.com, a worldwide leader in the data supply market.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
