The Great Britain Sovereign is one of the world’s longest-running gold coins still available today. Though the coins are no longer circulation pieces used in Britain, the design concept has remained largely the same since 1817 when it was introduced during the reign of King George III. The largest coin in the sovereign series is known as the Double Sovereign. In 2022, all Gold Sovereigns have a new reverse design to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Today, 2022 Gold Great Britain Double Sovereigns are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside protective flips or plastic tubes of 10 coins!
  • Third year of release for modern Gold Great Britain Double Sovereigns!
  • Consists of .4708 Troy ounces of actual gold content in BU condition.
  • The coins have legal tender status in Britain.
  • On the obverse is Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse features a depiction of the Royal Arms of England.

While the coins of the Gold Sovereign from the Royal Mint are legal tender in Britain, the coins are like the Gold Krugerrands of South Africa in that there are no face values noted on the coins. The standard Gold Sovereign has a nominal value of 1 Pound sterling, meaning that these Gold Double Sovereigns have a nominal value of 2 Pound sterling.

All of the 2022 Gold Great Britain Double Sovereigns offered here come in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are available individually in protective flips or by multiples of 10 gold coins with plastic tubes. Double Sovereigns are 22-karat gold coins with 91.67% gold per coin and 8.33% copper for balance.

On the obverse side of 2022 Gold Double Sovereigns is the latest effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen is the longest-reigning monarch in British history, having surpassed her great-grandmother Queen Victoria for the title of the longest-reigning monarch. This is the fifth-generation portrait of the Queen to grace British coins and was designed in 2015 by Jody Clark. The portrait shows the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem.

The reverse field of the 2022 Gold Great Britain Double Sovereigns comes with the elegant Royal Arms of England. Featured on the coins in 2022 to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, this design shows the quartered shield of the United Kingdom with the Lion of England and Unicorn of Scotland supporting the design.
