The Gold American Eagles are available annually from the United States Mint. In 1986, the mint introduced the BU and Proof versions of the coin, with a Burnished version of the coin introduced in 2006. The BU and Proof versions come in four weights, while the Burnished coin is available only in 1 oz gold. The largest fractional-ounce coin is the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle. Today, 2022-W 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagles are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Available to ship to you inside acrylic capsules with a US Mint box, shipper, and Certificate of Authenticity!
  • 36th issue of the Proof Gold American Eagles!
  • Issue limit of 2,000 coins only!
  • Consists of One-Half Troy ounce of actual gold content.
  • The face value of $25 (USD) is fully backed by the US government.
  • On the obverse is Lady Liberty.
  • The reverse features an American bald eagle.
  • Bears a W mint mark from the West Point Mint.

The coins in the Proof Gold Eagle Series come in the four popular weights the US Mint offers in the broader collection. This includes 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins. The 1/2 oz gold coin is often the lowest minted in both the BU and Proof collections. This year’s cap on the 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle makes it the lowest minted of the four. Only 12,000 will be struck in total, with just 2,000 of those coins available individually in this type of packaging.

All of the 2022-W 1/2 oz Proof Gold American Eagles available here come with acrylic capsules to protect the coins. The coin and capsule are presented inside a US Mint display box with an outer shipper for delivery. There is a Certificate of Authenticity available with each coin as well. The proof coins in this listing have frosted designs and mirrored background fields.

On the obverse of 2022-W Proof Gold American Eagles is a depiction of Lady Liberty. The image features the front-facing effigy of Liberty in full-length relief as she walks with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The design field includes the U.S. Capitol Building, sun rays on the horizon, and a ring of stars around the design element.

The reverse side of the 2022-W 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle features a new design of the American bald eagle. Designed in 2020 and introduced in mid-2021, the field shows a bald eagle’s head in left-profile relief with incredible details in the design.
