In 1986, the United States Mint introduced the gold coins of the American Eagle Series. This collection started with four weights in a series of BU gold coins and one weight in a series of proof gold coins. The first Proof Gold Eagle issued was a 1 oz gold coin. Right now, 2022-W 1 oz Proof Gold American Eagles are available to purchase online from Silver.com.

For 2022, the mintage limit for the 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle is set at 16,000 coins. However, just 6,000 of those coins are available for issue in this individual listing. The remaining 10,000 coins from the 1 oz Proof Gold Eagle release are dedicated to the 2022 4-Coin Proof Gold Eagle Series.

The obverse side of the 2022-W Proof Gold American Eagle comes with a portrait of Liberty. This design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for use on the Gold $20 Double Eagle coin from the US Mint. The image features the full-length figure of Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks toward the viewer with a torch held up in her right hand while carrying an olive branch in her left hand. There are sun rays on the horizon framing her figure, the U.S. Capitol Building is near her feet, and there is a ring of stars around the design element.

On the reverse field of 2022-W 1 oz Proof Gold Eagles is an image of the American bald eagle. This new design was created in 2020 by Jennie Norris and shows the head of the eagle in left-profile relief. The levels of detail in the design of the eagle are impressive in this design.
