Admirers of the Gold Britannia Series have become used to seeing the same monarch on the obverse. From its first issue in 1987 until 2022, Queen Elizabeth II was featured on these coins every year. Following her passing in September 2022, The Royal Mint had to depict a new monarch for the first time. However, early 2023 issues still bear the image of the late Queen. Silver.com now offers 2023 1/2 oz Gold British Britannia Coins in certified condition.

Coin Highlights:

  • Coins arrive inside NGC plastic slabs!
  • Last coins issued with Her Majesty on the obverse!
  • Known as the Last 500 struck with the Queen’s portrait!
  • Limited availability of certified perfect coins!
  • Consists of One-Half Troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.
  • Issued a face value of 50 Pound sterling (GBP) by Britain.
  • Bears a Grade of Mint State 70 from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Obverse depicts Queen Elizabeth II.
  • Reverse includes Britannia.

Queen Elizabeth II’s passing brought significant changes to the bullion coin market. Countries like Britain, Canada, and Australia started designing new monarch portraits for King Charles III in 2023. This was the first time these coins featured a different monarch.

Queen Elizabeth II was England’s longest-reigning monarch. Her reign saw numerous cultural and political changes. As a constitutional monarch, she served as the Head of State for the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms, playing a crucial symbolic and ceremonial role.

On the obverse of the 2023 1/2 oz Gold Britannia Coins, you’ll see the fifth-generation portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. She is shown in right-profile relief, wearing the George IV State Diadem. This image, designed by Jody Clark, first appeared on British coins in 2016.

The reverse design of the 2023 Gold British Britannia includes Philip Nathan’s iconic depiction of Britannia. Created in 1987, it shows Britannia wearing a Corinthian helmet, holding a trident in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Her left hand rests on a shield with the Union Jack.

These 2023 1/2 oz Gold British Britannia Coins are graded Mint State 70, meaning they have full, original mint luster with no imperfections. The NGC certifies these coins as among the last 500 2023 Britannias struck by The Royal Mint with Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
