In 2024, the United States Mint celebrates a significant milestone by honoring its first dollar coin design, which has a rich history linked to the founding of the mint itself. The US Mint was established in 1792, and in 1794, it introduced the Flowing Hair Silver Dollar, which was the first Liberty-themed design from the sovereign mint of the United States of America. The Flowing Hair Dollar was first introduced by the United States Mint in October 1794, featuring a left-profile image created by Robert Scot, the mint’s first Chief Engraver. This coin holds the distinction of being America’s first silver dollar and its initial Liberty coin design. The mint produced these coins in 1794 and 1795, with only 1,758 coins struck. After this short run, the design was replaced by the Draped Bust Dollar, and fewer than 150 original silver dollars are known to exist today.

This early representation of Liberty shows her with long, flowing hair and gentle facial features, surrounded by 13 stars. The design also includes the year 2024 and a special privy mark for the 230th anniversary on select medals.

On the reverse of the 2024 1 oz Silver 230th Anniversary Flowing Hair Medals, you will find a depiction of the original heraldic eagle. Designed in 1794 by Scot, this design shows a bald eagle in front-facing relief, with its wings spread wide while standing on a laurel wreath. Although initially viewed as a symbol of strength, the US Mint eventually replaced this design with others that were more reflective of the nation’s values.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment.
