Credit Suisse Group is a multinational financial services company located in the financial capital of Zurich, Switzerland. The company was originally founded in 1856 to help fund the development of a rail system in Switzerland. Over the course of its early history, Credit Suisse played a vital role in issuing loans that established Switzerland’s electrical grid, the wider European rail system, and helped the country develop its currency system.
The tola is a unit of measurement that originated in India. Many of the gold bars produced in India are weighed in tolas, with one tola equivalent to .375 Troy ounces. India’s recent moves to the metric system in the last few decades removed the tola from everyday use, but gold bullion bars in tola weights remain immensely popular. Between 1990 and 2002 alone, 40 million 10 tola bars were imported into India.
On the obverse of each of these 3.75 oz Gold Credit Suisse 10 Tolas Bars you’ll find the stamped markings that identify the bar. At the top of each bar is an oval with Credit Suisse stamped around the outer rim of the design, and the purity of .999 gold in the center. Below this stamp is the weight of the bar in tolas (10 Tolas), and at the very bottom is an assayer’s mark.
The reverse of each of these gold bars is purposefully left blank. For these particular gold bars from Credit Suisse, the production method was a hand-poured approach that leaves a rough, matte finish to the blank reverse side of the bar. The obverse has a slightly rounded appearance and all engravings stamped into the surface of the bar.
Credit Suisse was founded more than 150 years ago, and has undergone many changes over time. Once the majority owners of Valcambi Suisse, Credit Suisse recently sold its interest in the competitor.
