Arty Red Leg is the latest member of the Silver Soldiers to deploy to silver collectors everywhere and follows Stovepipe Sterling and Captain Troy. You might be wondering where the term “red leg” comes from. In the 1820s, the United States Army began adopting different branch colors, or “facing” colors, to distinguish soldiers by branch within the army.
The members of the artillery squadrons were assigned scarlet, or red, as the official branch color. All members of the artillery squadrons were issued uniforms with collars and cuffs on the jacket rimmed in red piping. Officers and noncommissioned officers also wore pants with a stripe of red down the outer seam, hence the term “red leg.”
These 4 oz Antique Finish Silver Soldiers Collection Arty Red Leg Statues depict a gruff and gritty member of the artillery squadron, known in this group as Arty Red Leg, carrying an artillery round to the howitzer. The most common round of the day is the 105 mm high-explosive round, which was historically fired out of the M101 howitzer and boasted an impressive maximum fire range of 7 miles.
Be sure to add Arty Red Leg to your Silver Soldiers squadron. Arty and his fellow army men will surely keep your desk or bookshelf safe from any potential hazards!
