Alphonse Maria Mucha was born in Moravia in the Austrian Empire, now Czech Republic, in July 1860. He would go on to become a famed Czech art nouveau painter and decorative artist who is considered by many to be the father of the art nouveau movement. He was an active artist, creating new designs and paintings up until his death in 1939.
The height of Mucha’s career occurred during the Art Nouveau movement between 1890 and 1920, but he shot to prominence in particular between 1895 and 1900. His first big art project was the advertisement poster for a playhouse production in 1895, and he quickly gained notoriety following its release.
On the obverse of the 5 oz Antique Silver Mucha Collection Laurel Round you’ll find the left-profile portrait of Laurel. Her eyes are unique in a Mucha design, in that they’re set looking downward. Laurel is one of two designs, together with Ivy, that were initially commissioned with Mucha by a popular dancer of the day known as Lygie.
The reverse of all Silver Mucha Collection Laurel Rounds include a front-facing portrait of Mucha. Taken from an actual photograph of the Czech artist, his picture is surrounded by engravings of his name, years of birth and death, and the round’s weight, purity, and metal content.
Each of these 5 oz Antique Silver Mucha Collection Laurel have unique edge lettering bearing the individual serial number of the round. This number is reflected on the Certificate of Authenticity included in the purchase of your round. Further, these rounds have a brilliant antiquing added, which brings warmth and depth to the overall design.
