The America the Beautiful series debuted in 2010 from the United States Mint. The release schedule includes five new designs each year, but they are not chosen at random. The US Mint releases each state, territory, or federal district design based on the year in which the park, forest, or other landmark was designated a federal landmark by the US government. The program started with the oldest sites and moved forward in time to the most recently established sites.
All 5 oz Burnished Silver ATB Coins in this product listing comes to you with the original United States Mint presentation case. The coins in this listing also have a Certificate of Authenticity from the US Mint. This is a random year listing, which means that you receive coins that are chosen at random after your payment is processed. We cannot guarantee the date mark or design on the specific coin you receive. Those individuals buying more than one coin should keep in mind that we cannot hand-pick differing date marks and designs. All coins are chosen at random based on availability.
Burnished ATB Silver Coins undergo a different coining process than the bullion versions. Each coin blank is burnished before coining to ensure a matte finish. The coins are individually loaded into the coining press by hand, struck, and removed by hand for immediate packaging.
The obverse of 5 oz Burnished Silver ATB Coins features the left-profile portrait of President Goerge Washington. Based on a 1786 bust completed by William Cousins, this design was created in 1932 by John Flanagan for use on the circulation quarter. The portrait of Washington was put on the quarter that year to mark his 200th birthday and remains there to this day.
On the reverse of 5 oz Burnished Silver ATB coins, you will find varying designs. Each reverse design represents a federally designated park, forest, historical monument, or other important landmark representing the state or other jurisdiction on that release. All Burnished ATB coins have “P” mint marks from the Philadelphia Mint.
