Without question, the most iconic silver coin design in American history came courtesy of George T. Morgan. His famous Morgan Silver Dollar coin design was literally the face of American currency for almost 30 years. No longer in circulation today, his design is still available on rounds and bars such as the 5 oz Great American Mint Silver Morgan Dollar Bar, now available through Silver.com.

United States Mint Assistant Engraver George T. Morgan was the man responsible for the Morgan Silver Dollar design. Morgan climbed the ranks of coin designers at a young age, earning respect by the age of 30 in his native Britain. However, the Royal Mint did not have a position open for him, so he came to the United States on a six-month trial period.
Just four years after arriving, he was given the responsibility of designing a new image for use on the nation’s silver dollar coin. After five sitting sessions with Anna Williss Williams, he had created a sharp and beautiful depiction of Lady Liberty. His design appeared on the first US silver dollar coin produced following a five-year halt in production.
On the obverse side of the 5 oz Great American Mint Silver Morgan Dollar Bar is the obverse side of the Morgan Silver Dollar. The image of a Morgan Silver Dollar is inset in the bar, and features the iconic left-profile of Liberty in her crown, with 13 stars around her head and “E Pluribus Unum” engraved above.
The reverse side of the bar features simplistic design features, and includes the engraving of “Five Troy Ounces .999 Fine Silver” in a repeating pattern. The coin design on the obverse side is finished with a strong, frosted appearance that contrasts the bar’s deeply-mirrored background brilliantly.
Great American Mint is a full-service refinery operating in the city of Anaheim, California. A private facility, it produces a variety of silver rounds and bars, as well as high quality blanks for sovereign mints such as the Royal Canadian Mint and the United States Mint.
