The American West is known as the Wild West because it was a lawless time in which almost anything could, and usually did, happen. Guns and bullets ruled the era, with outlaws using them to terrorize the innocent and lawmen using them to try and protect the people settling west of the Mississippi River as America’s size and land holdings grew.
Gunslingers were famous characters in the Old West, both in reality and in the media. Spaghetti Western films were a popular subgenre of Western films that came about in 1960s and were predominantly directed by Italian producers/directors. These films included the likes of Clint Eastwood, and often depicted gunslingers as morally torn individuals straddling the line between good and evil.
On the obverse of the 5 oz Proof Silver American Western Skulls Gunslinger Round you’ll find the depiction of a gunslinger long passed and gone from this world. Though he is dead, the skull maintains all the fear and iron nerve the gunslinger had in this life. He wears a hat low over his eyes, glares at the viewer with one eye squinted as he measures you up. With a cigar butt between his teeth, he is ready to match your speed when the time comes to draw those pistols.
The reverse of the Silver American Western Skulls Gunslinger Rounds feature a shared design that appears across all six releases and all versions. The fried eagle is a dark twist on the US heraldic eagle design. Rather than a bird full of feathers, this bald eagle too has passed his prime and is captured as a skeletal figure.
Osborne Mint American Western Skulls Collection rounds ship in protective plastic capsules and arrives with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The round’s edge-lettered serial number matches the one found on the COA.
