Most gold bullion bars are struck using one of two processes. Minted ingots are increasingly popular today because they offer both the inherent value of 24-karat gold, but also because they have precise production and intricate designs often included on the obverse and/or reverse sides of the bar.
500 Gram Gold Valcambi Cast Bars are an example of the oldest production method for precious metals. Cast bar production is relatively simple compared to minted ingots. Gold is heated to its melting point and poured from giant vats into pre-formed casts that shape the bar and ensure proper metal content and weight.
When the gold has been poured, the bar is either left inside of its cast to cool by the air, or it is dumped from the cast into water to cool it faster. Once the bars are cooled, engravings are stamped into the obverse face of the bar. Each of these 500 Gram Gold Valcambi Cast Bars is a roughly finished product with rounded edges.
On the obverse side of the 500 Gram Gold Valcambi Cast Bar you’ll find the refinery’s name at the top of the bar, written as “valcambi suisse,” followed by the rotating square logo. Additional engravings include the weight, purity, and metal content of the bar. Each one also has an assayer’s mark stamped on the bar and an individual serial number that consists of two letters and five numbers.
Founded as Valori & Cambi in 1961, Valcambi Suisse took a giant step forward in its history in 1968 when Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse purchased the refinery. The purchase by Credit Suisse brough Valcambi’s production processes up to speed with London and COMEX good delivery standards.
