Often referred to as junk silver, 90% silver coins from circulation in the United States are a popular and affordable way to increase silver holdings. While the designs and strikes on these coins are not as impressive as newer silver bullion coins, the silver content of the coins remains after decades of use in circulation. With a lower premium over the spot price of silver, 90% silver coins are a great way to boost your physical silver. The Barber Quarter was part of the Barber Coinage Series, a design collection used on the dime, quarter, and half dollar from 1892 to 1916. Each of the three denominations shared a right-profile bust of Liberty on the obverse, with the heraldic eagle on the reverse of the two larger denominations and the face value with a wreath on the dime.
The obverse of the 90% Silver Barber Quarters includes a depiction of Lady Liberty in right-profile relief. This bust depicts Liberty with her hair up in a cap and a wreath crown on her head. Inscriptions on this face include the national motto and date mark, with 13 stars split six to the left and seven to the right of Liberty’s portrait.
On the reverse side of 90% Silver Barber Quarters is the heraldic eagle of the United States. The face value and nation of issue are visible on this side of the coin, along with Barber’s design of the heraldic eagle. His eagle has a small national shield on its chest, a large olive branch in its right talon, and the arrows of war in its left talon. A ribbon banner through its beak reads “E Pluribus Unum,” and a cluster of 13 stars is set above its head.
