The first thought of many new investors in the precious metals marketplace often strays toward silver bullion options like the Silver American Eagle or Silver Canadian Maple Leaf. Prior to 1964, all US circulation coins were struck with 90% silver content, making remaining specimens an excellent investment option for those looking to get started in precious metal investing. Today, a collection of 90% Silver Coins is available in half-dollar denominations on Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you in a canvas bag.
  • Total of 200 US half-dollar coins!
  • Face value of $100 (USD) in total is backed by the US government.
  • 90% silver content!
  • Famous designs from US mintage history.

These 90% Silver Coins have .900 silver content, a feature not currently found in American coinage anymore. US coins abandoned the use of any silver in coinage following passage of the Coinage Act of 1965, which established new metal alloy combinations for American coins. The Coinage Act of 1965 shifted silver coining in the US away from a 90/10 silver/copper content, to a copper “sandwich” that featured a pure copper center and outer layers made of a cupronickel that contained a copper-nickel alloy.

In this product listing, you’ll receive a total of 200 individual US half-dollar coins, in circulation anywhere from 1892 and the introduction of the Barber Coinage to 1964, when the first Kennedy Half Dollars appeared during the final year of .900 silver striking by the United States Mint. Silver.com cannot  guarantee any of the specific designs you’ll find in the bag, but can guarantee a total of $100 (USD) face value in the half-dollars you receive.

Examples of half-dollar designs potentially included in this listing feature the Barber, Walking Liberty, Franklin, and Kennedy half dollars. The Barber Half Dollar appeared in 1892 and ran through 1916, and was designed by US Mint Chief Engraver Charles E. Barber. He designed the nation’s dime, quarter, and half dollar that year, and was the last Chief Engraver to design circulation coinage until the Kennedy Half Dollar came out.

The Barber Half Dollar designs were eventually replaced by Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design, which remains in use today on the nation’s Silver American Eagle coin. Following Walking Liberty (1916-1947) came the Franklin Half Dollar in honor of Benjamin Franklin from 1947 until 1963, and that was replaced by the current design of the Kennedy Half Dollar.

The Kennedy Half Dollar was the last coin to feature .900 silver in the half-dollar range. Released just three months after President Kennedy was assassinated, only the 1964 issue Kennedy Half Dollars feature .900 silver content. All subsequent years feature the cupro-nickel alloy composition.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
