Queen Victoria I ruled as Queen of England for more than 63 years from 1837 until 1901. Her long rule means that her effigy on Great Britain Gold Sovereign coinage is the most prominent from the 19th century. The initial design used in her reign was the Young Head depiction. Today, Great Britain Gold Sovereign Coins are available to you online at Silver.com.

Coin Highlights:

  • Ships to you housed in protective packaging!
  • Struck by the Royal Mint from 1837 to 1887!
  • Consists of .2354 Troy ounces of actual gold content.
  • On the obverse is Victoria I’s Young Head bust.
  • The coin’s reverse features either the Crowned Shield or St. George design.

Victoria I set a benchmark for ruling England that wouldn’t be matched or surpassed until 2015. From 1837 to 1901 she reigned over England and its colonial empire as a Queen who oversaw the expansion of the empire and military victories around the globe. The Great Britain Gold Sovereigns of her era featured the Young Head design most prominently.

All Great Britain Gold Sovereign Coins in this listing are available from the first 50 years of Queen Victoria’s 63-year reign. The Young Head bust debuted in 1838 in full and was available until the date of her Golden Jubilee in 1887 when a new design emerged.

On the obverse of all Great Britain Gold Sovereign coins available here is the effigy of Victoria I in left-profile relief. This young depiction of Victoria I captures her figure with young, soft features and her hair pinned back behind her head with no crown. Engravings in Latin read “Victoria” and “By Grace of God, Queen of England.” The respective date mark of your coin is found in the center-bottom field.

The reverse of these Great Britain Gold Sovereign Coins features one of two designs. Victoria I was the first monarch since 1817 to shun the St. George design. The Young Head design from 1837 to 1871 featured the Crowned Shield, a heraldic royal shield that is quartered with the three lions of England in two quadrants, the standing lion of Scotland in the third quadrant, and the harp of Ireland in the fourth quadrant.

For the first time, the Royal Mint concurrently struck gold sovereigns with two different reverse designs. From 1871 to 1887, the Victoria I Young Head design on the obverse was accompanied on the reverse by either the crowned shield mentioned above or the St. George design. During this period, Great Britain Gold Sovereigns were also issued with Benedetto Pistrucci’s St. George and the dragon design.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment. Please note, paper check and bank wire orders will NOT result in a charge to your card - we simple maintain the card on file while we await full payment by your selected payment method.

Do you ship internationally?

We currently only ship to addresses in the United States, including APOs.
